I love twitter for many reasons but today I love it because I found this video. I saw a tweet from Angry Asian Man and it lead me to his post on this mother and son duo featured on Ellen! So I loved the video so much that I wanted to see what inspired them. PSY is a Korean rapper and his video is below. I heart this video because PSY is so quirky. I have so much Korean pride right now. Enjoy! :0)

Shin Jung Hyun I have been introduced to Korean Rock and Soul music from the 60's and 70's from a friend named Han. We were talking about music the other day and I was saying how I wished I could get my hands on some old school Korean music to play at the shop. I didn't believe it, Han said he had many Korean old school artists at home on vinyl...so now I'm hooked! The funniest part of this is that I know some of these songs. I have heard Korean rock and soul music. My mom use to sing these songs all the time when I was growing up but I never thought it was rock and soul. It used to play in the background the way people grew up listening to the classics of James Brown and Aretha Franklin. I guess I just kept Korean music as a seperate entity in my mind, I never linked my Korean culture to this part of American culture. I never thought about the music, I just never....So I want to share these artists and memories. I hope that you enjoy this clip of The Pearl Sisters. They were rocking and it tickles me inside when I see and hear them because I'm so proud.
Here is a link to a recent NY Times article on the Godfather of South Korean rock his name is Shin Jung Hyun. (THANKS ELLEN FOR THE LINK) http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/21/arts/21iht-Korearock21.html?_r=1 |
